These are the first pictures of Johnny Depp on location in the Caribbean for his new movie The Rum Diary. The Pirates of the Caribbean star swapped a pirate ship for a small dinghy as he scouted locations for the movie interpretation of Hunter S.Thompson's novel. Depp clutched a copy of the script as he returned to his hotel, March 22nd, 2009. Shooting starts end of this month.

'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor Johnny Depp will turn narrator for a new documentary on the iconic rock and roll band 'The Doors'.Johnny Depp will be narrating 'When You're Strange' a documentary about the 60's band which had rock legend Jim Morrison as it's lead singer.
The film which got good reviews at the Sundance film festival will now get another boost with Depp's participation.
An announcement about the decision to add Depp's voice to the project is expected to be made at the Berlin Film Festival, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Amber Heard is in negotiations to play the coveted female lead opposite Johnny Depp in "Rum Diary," the adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel, which Bruce Robinson is writing and directing.
Heard is a relative newcomer who so far has been cast in supporting roles in more modest movies. Her notable roles include the title character in "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane" and a stint as Seth Rogen's high school-aged girlfriend in "Pineapple Express."
"Diary" will place Heard at the front and center of a love triangle in the tale of a washed-up, hard-drinking journalist named Paul Kemp (Depp) in 1950s Puerto Rico. Heard will play Chenault, the free-spirited girlfriend of a fellow journalist who cheats on him with Kemp, trying to convince him to run away with her.
The role drew strong interest from many a leading lady (Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley were among those reported to have been vying for it), though some had reservations regarding the nudity the role calls for. But that didn't inhibit Heard -- in the upcoming ensemble Bret Easton Ellis adaptation "The Informers," she spends all but one scene in the flesh. "Diary," however, also will offer the opportunity to showcase some dramatic chops.
The role of Sanderson, the third point in the triangle, has not been cast.
The project, which Depp, Christi Dembrowski and Graham King are producing, begins March 30 in Puerto Rico. "Rum" is a production of King's GK Films and Depp's Infinitum Nihil. Also producing are Film Engine with A.J. Dix, Anthony Rhulen and William Shively attached alongside Robert Kravis and Greg Shapiro.
"Diary" is a passion project for Depp, a friend of Thompson, who has been trying to get the adaptation off the ground since 2003.
Heard, who just booked the lead in John Carpenter's haunted house thriller "Ward 19," also nabbed a cameo in Columbia's "Zombieland," starring Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson. She will play the object of Eisenberg's affection who turns into a zombie.
Heard is repped by Endeavor, Hyler Management and attorney Karl Austen.

Terry Gilliam made the week of Thanksgiving about returning to his doomed Don Quixote project, which was the subject of the documentary Lost in La Mancha. At the time, Gilliam said of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, "I was in some way relieved that it did fall apart, because I didn't have the money to finish it.
"It's a good thing it went down when it did because I would have got the blame for going over budget."
There were other problems besides the budget, including injured actors, a disastrous flood, and more.
Empire reports that Gilliam is now hard at work revising the script for his unfinished film, collaborating with his Fear and Loathing writing partner, Tony Grisoni. "I re-read the greatest script ever written and realise we gotta get rewriting! I really wanna knock that one out in the next month or so."
Because the film was never finished before, the original script was held up for years before the rights reverted back to Gilliam, who now says he has some "very different ideas" for the movie. The director would like to begin filmint this year, according to Empire, but it's all contingent on Johnny Depp's schedule.
He may have played a pirate on one of the highest grossing movies of the decade, but Johnny Depp has now raised his sword against the real-life villains of the high seas. The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star has backed the Environmental Justice Foundation’s ‘Save the Sea’ campaign to highlight the illegal plunder of the oceans by pirate fishing vessels.
In a letter in support of EJF, Depp has called for an immediate response to the crisis before it is too late.
“Our seas and the people that depend upon them are facing a critical threat,“ he wrote. “Pirate fishing operations are plundering fish stocks the world over, which in turn undermine all attempts at their sustainable management, already under pressure from widespread misdirection. The devastating impact of this illegal form of fishing is felt not only by our marine ecosystems, but also by the millions of people living in some of the world’s poorest countries who rely on healthy fish stocks as an essential source of both food and employment.”
In his message of support, Depp highlights the case that “this is not a problem without cure, but we have to act now if we are to protect our marine-life’s biodiversity and food security for future generations. It is more important than you, or any of us, can at this moment even begin to understand. That is why I support the work of the Environmental Justice Foundation to raise awareness and provide ‘real-world’ solutions to the issue. Their efforts to engage in effective action to protect both people and planet will help to bring an end to pirate fishing, once and for all.”
Johnny Depp will in all likelihood after the filming of Alice in Wonderland begin filming on the movie Rum Diary. The cast is well-known and Johnny will play Paul Kemp in this movie, Paul Kemp is? One of the alter egos of the then 22-year-old Hunter S. Thompson. Johnny Depp is going to play a 22-year-old journalist, and its seems to me that he will do a great job of this, just with a little bid of Smink he can easily by a 22-year-old man.

You could say being an outlaw runs in Johnny Depp's blood. After all, his grandfather ran moonshine on the back roads of Kentucky during Prohibition. So it shouldn't come as any surprise that the actor jumped at the chance to play John Dillinger in Public Enemies. ''Dillinger was one of those guys, like Charlie Chaplin and Evel Knievel, that I was fascinated with at a young age,'' says Depp. ''And because of my grandfather, the character was pretty easy for me to connect to.
In a way, this movie was a salute to him.'' Based on a book by Bryan Burrough, Enemies is a cat-and-mouse thriller about the early days of the FBI, and one agent's pursuit of the Depression-era bank robber whose dizzy reign of stickups and near escapes ended in a hail of bullets outside of Chicago's Biograph Theater in 1934. Dillinger lived fast, died young, and left not only a handsome corpse but a legacy as one of the most notorious criminals of the 20th century.

Johnny Depps Infinitum Nihil has the movie richts of Nick Tosches roman In the Hand of Dante. The novel will be developed as a potential star vehicle for Depp.
Depp will produce with his Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski. The company, which has a first-look deal with Warner Bros. and Graham King's GK Films, optioned the book with its own coin.
Book revolves around Dante's masterwork "The Divine Comedy," and tells parallel storylines involving Dante in 14th-century Italy as he tries to complete the work, and a contemporary storyline involving Tosches, who is asked to authenticate what might be Dante's original manuscript. Depp would play Tosches. The novel was published in 2002.
Depp, who is playing the Mad Hatter in the Tim Burton-directed "Alice in Wonderland," has a dance card that includes toplining another "Pirates of the Caribbean" film, "The Lone Ranger," and voicing the title character in the Gore Verbinski-directed animated film "Rango."
At the same time, his production company has become more ambitious, and is getting close to the starting line on its first movie.
Depp will star in March as gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson in "The Rum Diary," an adaptation of the Thompson book that Infinitum Nihil is producing with GK Films, with King's company financing the picture. Bruce Robinson is directing his script. It's Depp's second turn in a Thompson tale; he starred in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."
Infinitum Nihil also is working with GK Films and WB on a film transfer of "Dark Shadows" that will have Depp playing Barnabas Collins; an adaptation of "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" that will be directed by Chris Wedge; an adaptation of the Gregory David Roberts book "Shantaram" that was scripted by Eric Roth; and "The Bomb in My Garden," the Mahdi Obeidi/Kurt Pitzer book that has a script by Robert Edwards. Infinitum Nihil also is developing an adaptation of "Inamorata" that was scripted by the book's author, Joseph Gangemi.

Universal did a test screening for Johnny's upcoming movie Public Enemies - still without a real score in place, color timed, and still 2 hours 40 minutes long.

Jerry Bruckheimer has told Coming Soon that Disney is setting their sites on a 2012 release for Pirates of the Caribbean 4. Franchise scribes Ted Elliott and Ted Rossio are still working on the story and plotlines. A Story which will revolve around Johnny and Geoffrey Rush's characters.
A script that is much further along is The
Lone Ranger in which Johnny will play Tonto.
Bruckheimer stated the leading role for The
Lone Ranger is yet to be cast even though
their were rumors that George Clooney was
lined up for the role. He says that part

Unfortunately, Johnny didn't attend the show to pick his award. Johnny was spotted in Guanajuato Mexico yesterday (Source). He was there scouting locations for a upcoming project. He was also seen in Jalisco which is not far. Johnny was there until the evening hours and left the city with his companions and his equipment.He was seen out on the streets with four other gentlemen (one was Jerry). The last trip that Johnny made to Mexico was in August of 2003 when he filmed Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Johnny walked the streets freely and was left to his privacy. See the photo! (he's the guy behind Jerry with the cap!)

As a direct result of Johnny's latest deal with Disney for Pirates 4 Johnny has passed Will Smith as Highest Paid Actor in Hollywood according to the Chicago Sun Times' Bill Zweick. Depp's salary for Pirates 4 will be $55 million the biggest check for an individual film role.

This is where it gets interesting, in the background the Lone Ranger logo appeared on the screen, but that's not all, the screen pulled up to reveal someone dressed in The Lone Ranger costume on a white horse and everything. After the Lone Ranger left the stage, Dick Cook said Disney did not know just yet who would be playing the Lone Ranger, but he says they have had several candidates. Just then, from behind, someone in full Jack Sparrow regalia came out onto the stage holding a nickel plated revolver and wearing the Lone Ranger black mask. He removes the mask to reveal his true identity JOHNNY DEPP!! The audience yet wild to say the least! Cook says it would be a perfect Trifecta, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and now as The Lone Ranger and he promised Disney would throw in another Pirates movie for good measure.
UPDATE: Disney has just confirmed to IESB that Depp in fact is officially signed on to play TONTO in the Lone Ranger film and not the Lone Ranger himself. It looks like Disney and Depp certainly have a long relationship ahead! It was an amazing day at the Disney preview and Depp was certainly the icing on the cake! This goes along with something we reported some time ago that Pirates helmer Gore Verbinski and crew including writers Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio would be behind the Lone Ranger film, Depp likes to work with those he knows...

Although Filming has started for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland at the Antony House there is still no word whether Johnny will be present for filming there. A spokeswoman for production has told the Herald that Johnny won't be filming at Antony, in Plymouth or anywhere in the UK.She added that Disney has not yet confirmed he would be appearing in the film at all. The Mad Hatter's tea party is among the scenes being filmed in Antony and Johnny is rumored to be playing the part of the Mad Hatter, but it is also rumored he will be a CGI graphic.
